These adapters sit just outside the bottom bracket bearings and are designed to occupy the additional space inherent with the rangier spindle and narrower shell. No need to buy a new crank just to accommodate a different bottom bracket standard. The alloy construction supports the spindle perfectly and is both light and highly durable. For 10 bucks, the conversion is made and you'll still have your longer spindle crank if you go back to a BB386 frame down the road.
