If there's one thing we've learned from Abbey Bike Tools is just how fastidious it is about the material choices, development, and design it instills into each and every tool. Take the Decade Chain Tool for instance. It spent a full two years of prototyping, testing, and revising before it was deemed ready for professional mechanics and for your shop. Abbey claims to have broken over 10,000 chains on a single tool and pin during its development, the equivalent of three chain installs per day, every day for 10 years, hence its name. Now for the fun part, the details. Its threaded body and lead screw are constructed of cro-moly and receive a low friction powder vapor deposition (PVD) coating for a smooth operation with no binding. The large handle offers plenty of leverage and moves the freely rotating pin that's made from shock rated tool steel for durability. The chain tool also comes with an additional spare pin in the handle and works with Shimano and Campagnolo chain pins. The most unique, and perhaps our favorite part of this chain tool, is its interchangeable mid-plate. This is the saddled part that holds the chain's plates while driving out or installing pins and its position can be swapped to work with whatever the industry might come out with throughout your ownership of the Decade. The Decade also peens Campagnolo 11 and 12-speed chains to the recommended factory specs using a backstop that threads into the backside of the tool as a stop. The Decade is compatible with 7 through 12-speed chains and mid plates for 1/8-inch single speed chains are in the works.
