Best Mid Hiking Boot!

Although I haven’t used them yet, based on a test drive I am very impressed. They seem to be the most comfortable and stable yet free forming hiking boot I have ever worn. Not to mention I don’t think there is a lighter comparable mid hiking boot on the market. It seems to have great ankle support and the treads on the bottom get excellent traction. I started canoe tripping in BWCA in 2023 and have been searching for the perfect hybrid boot to fit the bill for portaging and canoeing ever since. Based on the previous BWCA review I bought these and I know already they are going to be awesome on my upcoming canoe trip in May. Thank you Astral for developing a wonderful all around mid hiking boot!

Best shoes ever made.

By far the most comfortable, shock absorbent, rock contouring shoes I’ve ever worn in my life! Recently these were the only shoes I brought on a trip to Honduras, and I’m SO pleased with them. I usually have problems with my heels hurting, but after hiking up a mountain for two hours, it felt like I had only been walking for a few minutes in ANY other shoe. Grip is immaculate, I didn’t slip once in the humid forest. The most breathable shoes I’ve ever worn, especially nice for a person with sweaty feet. Don’t size up. I have kind wide feet, so I usually do size 11 for a wider toe box. The 11 ended up being a bit long on me, but I really don’t mind at all since I can stretch my toes out as much as I want. Just took a few minutes to get used to. Perfect arch support. Awesome laces/lacing system that doesn’t make your foot feel trapped/confined, but perfectly secure and supported at the same time. I was skeptical about the high top, but they are very stylish, and match most of my wardrobe. I found myself not being able to stop talking about how comfortable they were the whole week! The ankle support is nice, not too stiff or flimsy. It feels so natural walking in them. I looked for things to complain about. Seriously I couldn’t find anything until the pull tab on the heel ripped a little. It’s a bit of a bummer, but these are definitely a must have for everyone! I seldom write reviews, but I can’t stop saying it. These are my favorite shoe I’ve ever worn. Please never stop making them.

best breathable super lightweight boot

These are lighter, more meshy than the originals. Still the best breathable super lightweight boot I've found out there. Fit true to size.

Best Portage Boot Ever

I guide in the BWCAW, paddling & portaging all day, carrying heavy loads over rocky, rooted, uneven ground. This boot gives me great arch support. The padded ankle, roomy toe box, water vents at toe & sides are top notch. Astral’s patented G-rubber sole grips wet rock surfaces, way beyond any other brand I’ve worn! All this in a super light weight boot that dries fast, cleans up, and looks great.

Lightweight and comfortable right out of the box

These ran a little long for me so I sized down by .5 ... Otherwise they are exceedingly comfortable right out of the box. Fantastic grip. I love a wide toe box and these are marketed as such. I would say they are not as wide as some other trail runners but are still wide enough. I have a neuroma and there has been no issues. No rubbing medial or lateral. They are so lightweight and I love not having to worry about them getting wet.

Wonderful

The color is amazing and the tongue is a major upgrade from the last ones I purchased. Walking on air.

Light, comfortable - great hiking boot!

Very comfortable, stable shoe that is really light and sure in its grip. The wide toe box is particularly comfortable without being too roomy (and I don’t have an especially wide foot), and the neutral drop makes for a very pleasant hiking experience with no heel grab or toe sliding. I typically wear a men’s size 13, but had to go up to a size 14 which fit just right without being too large. (At that size, half sizes are hard to find, so getting the fit is a challenge.)

WOW amazing wading boot for fishing

Bought these on a whim for a wading boot after having great luck with the tr mesh for wet wading season (altho that one def needs a sock) and wow these are by far the most lightweight, quick drying boot for fishing and just the right amount of support, def had to order a half size bigger to fit over waders but wow these are a sleeper excellent wading boot, should market this thing for fishing, few friends have been turned on to these for this purpose and love them more than Simms or Orvis brand boots.

Welcome the TR1 Merge 2.0!

I love my TR1 Merge 2.0 boots and am thrilled that Astral brought back this boot model!!! I highly recommend this boot!!! I declare this boot my all-time favorite for hiking, canoeing, kayaking shoe for spring through fall and for year around yard work and walk-about town. They fit comfortably for all day wear. Unless I dress for cocktail party or funeral, the TR1 Merge 2.0 are the shoes I wear. (For coldest winter hikes, I use the Astral Pisgah for more warmth and waterproof for snow.) For the TR1 Merge 2.0, I love the flat sole and the huge area for the ball and toe area. I have narrow feet, but I can lace the arch/ankle area tightly enough without feeling pressure points and without cutting off circulation so that my foot does not slip around in the boot, does not get rubbed, and yet my toes can move around freely. The ankle padding does not get in the way of ankle articulation and is appreciated as protection from rocks (hiking, river). This boot is lightweight, durable, drains water, dries fast even after submerging in water (e.g., this fall at the ocean, by accident). Love the fact that soon after submerging, with my quick dry socks, I am unaware that my boots were ever under water: they are still as comfortable as ever. Another advantage of these water tolerant boots: once muddy, I can scrub them inside and out without degrading the boot, and they dry fast. The tread grips well for hiking on angled rock, wet canoe bottom, wet pavement. My 2018 TR1 Merge have worn well, and I still use them. (They just look a bit worn for about-town use.) Thus, I expect the TR1 Merge 2.0 will also wear well. FYI on sizing: I am female of normal weight with slight build usually wearing sneaker size 8.5-9.0. With my store-bought ( in 2018 ) Merge, after a year or so I realized that I had a MAN's 9.5, meaning I had a size 1.5 sizes too large, but they fit perfectly. Since the boot fit so well, I bought in 2022 the Pisgah for winter wear in Man's 9.5 and bought in Sept 2024 the TR1 Merge 2.0 in Man's 9.5. All 3 pairs of these boots fit the same. I think the reason this larger size works so well is that the lacing systems allow me to lace tightly (without binding or cutting circulation) the arch/ankle area to keep foot in place (no slipping, no rubbing) while leaving the toes free to move as much as they like. At the end of long hikes, my feet do not feel tired even if the rest of me does.

Almost!

Bought these for wading bonefish flats in the Bahamas. They are almost perfect for this, except the mesh is too coarse. While this lets them drain well, it lets in the fine Bahamian sand. Unfortunately, I had to stop a couple times a day and empty out the accumulated sand. Otherwise, these are great boots. They dry quickly, are lightweight and provide a nice amount of stability without being clunky. Still giving them 4 stars because I'm sure this is not the end use Astral had in mind. If you guys made a boot like this with fine mesh that keeps sand out, I would snap them up in a heartbeat and recommend them to all my fishing friends.
