Solid Investment
These are the tires to have for Winter/Spring rides, where my options range from groomed Nordic trails to hard pack/icy multi-use trails. I wasn't sure about 4.0 vs 5.0 tire width, but can say that for what I'm riding, the 4.0 is just fine. If I were making fresh tracks in a few inches or more, I'd want a wider tire for a little more float, but that's not my reality. Studs make a huge difference on icy climbs/descents/turns with confidence-inspiring grip. Not so much fun on concrete/asphalt, but I have to deal with that occasionally to get to my local trail. I did note tearing a stud out, probably when I was testing the braking and sliding the rear wheel around on icy asphalt. No big deal ... I picked up a pack of 100 studs and an install tool from 45N. Yes, these are spendy tires but they will last forever so long as I'm not riding them on dirt & slab. I'll swap them out with different tires for Summer.
