Why We Like The Alp Trainer 2 Mid GTX Hiking Boot
Salewa's unique 3F support system continues to impress us in the Alp Trainer 2 Mid GTX Hiking Boot. The system reinforces horizontal stability without inhibiting lateral movements at each step. This makes for an easier time on steeper terrain, or when high-stepping larger boulders.

I can't decide and either can the boot
In my opinion the boots design is trying to be too much. The upper fits a medium width foot very well and the heel locking system works great. The upper is very flexible and conforms to the foot and you also can’t go wrong with the Gore-Tex upper. However, the midsole is so hard under foot it feels like I’m in a heavy backpacking boot. Even after adding a soft (aftermarket) insole it makes my feet tired in a few hours. This style could have been developed two ways. Soften up the midsole durometer to make it a comfortable outdoor cross trainer. Or add a stiffer/longer shank to the midsole and beef up the leather upper for ankle support so you can use it in challenging terrain. Also, the laces should be a bit thicker and shorter…

Great Overall hiking boot, the correct amount of stiffness in the outsole without losing comfort, the upper and the construction feels well-made. The only thing that doesn't feel as strong as the boot itself are the laces, it may be on purpose because they are extremely light and thin so it could be a way of saving weight. It's important to note that "Backcountry" solve an issue with my first pair of alp trainers, they act fast and quickly giving an excellent customer service. No complains after the first 50 miles.

All day comfort
These boots are comfortable even with extended use. I have worn these for 12+ hour shifts with no complaint. Feet stay dry and they breath nicely. The loop on the back of the heel will snag the loop hooks if you cross your feet. Easily solved by cutting the back loop.

Great boots for all day comfort!
Very comfortable boots have been wearing them for a few months now and feet feel good after all day. Wore them in all kinds of weather and no water penetration. Really good grip on slippery surfaces.

So far have been my new favorites
I have worn these boots hunting and hiking and have thoroughly enjoyed them. For me, they required no break in period. They are stiff enough on the sole but still feel like wearing a tennis shoe everywhere else. These will be great for anyone who hikes a lot and likes to keep it light on their feet. If you have very wide feet you may need a different boot though but I have kind of medium wide feet and they work for me.

Incredible all-purpose boots
Salewa markets these as mountaineer trainers but they are excellent for many other uses too. Right out of the box they are comfortable and get even better as they break in. The grip is fantastic and the height on the ankle is perfect for support without being cumbersome; just what you want in a mid-top. I don’t know how they squeezed this durability and quality into a boot this lightweight. I use primarily for hunting and hiking and these things are bulletproof.
