I prefer the original Farpoint 55
I had purchased the original Farpoint (where the day pack could be attached to the main pack via a zipper). This original version had its problems (i. e. did not match carry on standards, etc) and eventually I had to replace the pack for the newer Farpoint because the day pack wouldn't attach to the main pack anymore (problem with the lining of the zipper). I am pleased and can confirm that Osprey delivered on their promise of a lifetime warranty. I received the new Farpoint 55 and noticed a few changes. The good thing is that it now follows airline carry on size requirements. What I don't like is that there is nothing actually attaches the day pack to the main pack - there are just 2 fastener buckles on the main pack that you put through the day pack to keep them together. The issue here is that if you have some heavier things in your daypack (i. e. laptop, etc), the day pack will slide down and dangle below the main pack. It doesn't feel comfortable nor does it feel really safe to have your items in the day pack (i. e. passport. laptop etc) not really attached to the main pack. Understand that many prefer to carry the day pack in front, but sometimes I travel with a toddler who is already strapped to my front.

Excellent “one bag” (or technically
Excellent “one bag” (or technically two) for North/South America & Europe. It may be a bit cumbersome for SE Asia, but great for everywhere else and you could probably squeak by there as well. Removable daypack fits under seats perfectly. Great all around bag set up if you want to avoid checking bags. Great suspension on the main bag as well. Nearly as good as my EXOS & Talon backpacking bags and plenty good for train/plane/bus travels. Durable quality and strong zippers. I use it with packing cubes to keep everything organized, which works great. One of the low key best parts is separating the packs before boarding and stowing all the backpack straps. It makes boarding without hitting people with straps a breeze! The internal pockets can replace a tech pouch of needed and the the other internal pouch is great for a catch all or separated dirty clothes. 10/10 would buy it again for sure.

Thoughtful well designed pack and day pack system. Great for long weekend travels via ground and air. Multipurpose capable luggage pack with the removable day pack design. The straps through straps is annoying efficient enough. Hopefully they are durable long term but imagine to be weak point with the amount of use they will see long term. I was able to get into enough storage compartments and zips without taking things apart while in an airport for access to all travel items. A larger item such as a laptop would require multiple straps and zips to be undone/redone. Very doable in a tight space albeit inefficiency in general. The pack looks indistinguishable from other mainstream luggage which attracts less attention. The padded carry handles allowed me to not need to deploy harness/shoulder straps on multiple occasions while fully loaded on a few occasions and while walking 1-2 miles through airports. The day pack is great for light quick carry. It lacks a waist strap for anything more than basic activity uses. I also with the outer fabric was more water resistant or fully waterproof. That's never issue until it is.

A Great Travel Bag Setup
I recently used the Farpoint 55 on a 10 day trip across France. The main bag had plenty of room for all of my clothing and a spare pair of shoes. The day pack was great for stashing a few extra layers and keeping my essentials accessible. Love the ability to carry the entire unit as one backpack, convert the main bag to a carry-on and hide all the straps, as well as front carry the day pack. I used all three configurations on my trip. So glad I went with this over a roller bag.

It's a trail pack with table manners!!!
This completely changed air travel for me. I fly weekly for business and check two huge rolling Pelican cases and this thing is a game changer for my personal stuff!! I no longer have to rig up a way in and out of the airport for my carryon roller bag because it has assumed its new permanent residence in a closet. I don't have to take up space in one of the Pelican cases anymore with the 55L pack that I carried the stuff in the cases to demo's with as I do so with the main main pack of the Fairpoint and my computer and stuff is sitll in the daypack. The Fairpoint 55 made air travel easier than I imagined possible. The way the flap on the back of the main pack zips the straps up for overhead bin storage makes tight spaces in the overhead bin possible and easy. The handles on the side and top are extremely comfortable for carrying by hand when the straps are stowed. The way the day pack nests in the back of the main pack makes TSA easy if you have precheck you just put one bag on the belt and don't take anything out it's just easy. I thought the pictures of the day pack hanging off the front straps looking like a reserve parachute were a little goofy and who would carry it like that but let me tell you when I had a few minutes to make a connecting flight I did it as I was waiting to get off the first plane and it was comfortable and easy darting through airport congestion to make my flight. It's an Osprey pack so it's just flat out comfortable on your back with the multiple adjustment points it fits like a glove. Osprey knocked it out of the park with this one!!!!! Kudos to the designers!!!!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Currently using this bag for a 6 week trip through Europe. It packs more than enough and is easy to carry. Love both the combination with the small pack into a single bag and the quick transformation into a carryon style.
